Remembrance Sunday 2018

For three years our church building has had a cascading Poppy display, inspired by the similar dramatic showing at The Tower of London.  The display comprises a variety of homemade materials made by many different people and from many different materials.  We are extremely grateful to everyone.  For the last two years this has been complemented by various other displays in other parts of the town: shops, schools, uniformed groups’ premises, lamp posts and other places.

This year, will mark the centenary of the end of World War I and we would like to see the displays grow and spread across Stanford-le-Hope.  It would be brilliant to involve schools, nurseries, restaurants, clinics, pubs, petrol stations, Youth group huts, shops, churches, front gardens etc.  Please consider if you could do something in your own space or help to add to the church display.  We have had some wonderful knitted poppies and various free patterns are available online, or from the church.  Our young people have enjoyed making poppies from the bottom of plastic bottles and painting them red with acrylic paint.  Others have come up with various ideas that have simply added to the display we see.  They all come together in a way reminiscent of the manner in which soldiers of all backgrounds, cultures and nationalities come together for the common good.

Please think about getting involved and don’t hesitate to contact us at the Church office.  We will be grateful for your poppies throughout the year, so GET CREATING!
